ENGAGEMENT GUIDE

Now that we're officially booked for your wedding date — it’s time to plan out your engagement session

WHAT TO WEAR

probably one of the first questions you have — and i’m here to help guide you into some choices that are both unique to you but also flattering, appropriate and complimentary.

my goal is that you both feel comfortable and confident, in outfits that work best with my shooting and editing style

together we will come up with the best combinations — this is such an important piece to how your photos will turn out

LOCATION + ENVIRONMENT

First consider where your session will take place and what season it will take place in - if we are going to the mountains - pack some comfortable shoes, but if it’s a beach session no shoes are even necessary. If it’s winter you want to think all about layers - but in the middle of summer you’ll want fabric that is breathable and flowy. Think about the surrounding colors - if we are surrounded by trees you may not want to wear shades of green that blend into the background. environment plays a huge role in your outfit decisions

the following are tips that I recommend when picking out your engagement session outfits — with that being said, these photos are yours to cherish forever! ultimately it is most important that you both love and feel comfortable in what you’re wearing

COLORS

I always recommend neutral colors and earth tones — think beige, cream, burn orange, navy blue, mustard yellow, navy blue, browns and other muted colors.

avoid colors that are too bright and too matchy to each other — complimentary is important, matching is not

MOVEMENT

movement is key to catching those authentic, fun, non-staged photos you all love about my photos so much! with that being said its super important that your clothes are too restrictive — think long, flowy dresses, shirts with movement, outfits that you feel confident in when you run around

PATTERNS

when it comes to patterns, I recommend only one of you wear one (if any), and think more soft, subtle patterns instead of loud, distracting ones

ACCESSORIES

think shoes that you can move around in — hats, jewelry — pieces that have meaning to you both - bring ideas and don’t feel like just because you have it you need to wear it for every photo — options are always a good idea :)

PROPS

favorite bevy you two enjoy sharing together? a game that you guys fell in love playing on your first date? polaroid camera? your jeep? coffee date? the sky is the limit — know that props can elevate your photos and aren’t cheesy like you might be thinking!

FAQs

How to make the most out of your session

  1. be intentional with each other — I don’t want you to think about “smiling at the camera” or waiting to hear what pose I am going to put you in. the most magical sessions come from couples who focus more on each other than on me

  2. if I am not telling you to do something, keep doing your own thing — there will be moment during the session you won’t hear me talking (this is a good thing). have fun with each other, make each other laugh, compliment, kiss — enjoy this intimate time together

  3. take the day off of work or at minimum plan a fun dinner or cocktail date afterwards! take the time to be intentional and celebrate this super special time in your lives! this is just the start of the fun you two will share in this lifetime together

My goal is for you both to think at the end of the session

“that was actually really fun”
